Abstract

This paper proposes an interlinked solid-state circuit breaker (ISSCB) for medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) system. An ISSCB can effectively block dc fault at different locations and also provide current regulation during normal operation. The topology design of the ISSCB is described. Its operating principle for both protection and current regulation is established. The proposed ISSCB topology is tested in PSCAD/EMTDC using a multi-feeder MVDC system. Simulation results demonstrate the capability and effectiveness of the proposed ISSCB to regulate system current and isolate a dc fault.
