Abstract

This work examines pros and cons underlying the legal Obligation to microchip dogs from in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. For example by 6 April 2016, on importing a dog keeper who must ensure that the dog is microchipped within 30 days of importing the dog unless a veterinary surgeon certifies that microchipping would significantly compromise the dog’s health. The likely practical challenges in enforcing compulsory microchipping of dogs are elucidated. The developments in other parts of the World such as microchipping of cats in some jurisdiction are explained. Scientific counter arguments for the development of this law. Final assertions are reached. However these final observations are neither conclusive nor the most authoritative but a clear reflection of observations based on the available law and evidence at the time of writing.
