Abstract

This paper presents a dynamic predictive model of creeping discharge until flashover of solid insulator in air at atmospheric pressure. The model is based on the theory of electrical circuits, thermal properties of the discharge and electro-energetic balance. The application of the model to an epoxy solid insulator submitted to positive lightning impulse voltage gives results close to the experimental ones.
