Abstract
This article offers an overview of the main types of eczema that are common in older patients, and focuses primarily on the importance of a holistic assessment and the use of emollient therapy. The community nurse is best placed to assess, recommend treatment and provide education to enhance concordance with therapy. It is also essential for nurses to consider some of the less obvious manifestations of skin disorders in older people and to detect and treat these conditions early and prevent undue suffering.
