Abstract

Membrane-inlet quadrupole mass spectrometry offers accurate and sensitive non-invasive analysis of several gases simultaneously in either gaseous or dissolved phase. The principles, equipment, and interpretation of results are discussed. After extensive laboratory use (data reported for air, oxygen and argon in an estuarine sediment core), initial field trials have been promising.
