Abstract
Complexities in the macro environment in which companies operate such as commodity price fluctuations, growing environmental legislation and consumers' awareness of corporate social responsibility issues, are on the rise. These are altering significantly the competitive scenario requesting adjustments in the logic of value creation characterising business models so as to attain a sustainable and sustained competitive advantage. It is within this context that the circular economy, which makes the case for more resource efficient industrial processes, is enticing pioneer corporate leaders across the globe to innovate their corporate strategies. Academic interest in the topic has risen substantially recently though with limited contribution from the Management Studies. Hence, this article offers a conceptualisation of the circular economy that is meaningful to Management practitioners and researchers. It also reflects on how Management theory fits with circular economy thinking and steers the implementation of future innovative circular economy strategies.
