Abstract

Xerostomia is an unpleasant symptom for many patients receiving palliative care. It can cause much distress, but can often be relieved using simple methods. Causes of dry mouth include side-effects of drugs and radiotherapy. In refractory cases, a review of drug treatments is helpful, and saliva substitutes may have a role.
