Abstract
China has entered an aging society. However, majority of cities are not ready to cope with demands of aging society. This empirical research focuses on the three type of communities in Xiamen to explore the problems of adaptation to the aging population in demands of service, especially medical service facilities. It is found that even facilities may be provided in line with planning norms, the psychological demand and accessibility to the services are poor to the due their quality of services. Depending upon the survey and analysis, this research proposes several solutions from the perspectives of planning, design and regulatory planning index for adaptation to the aging society. The needs of the elderly in transport and community landscaping have also been recommended.
