Abstract
Power systems require transformers, as their most strategically important and most costly elements. When the insulation separating laminations of power transformers breaks down, can cause severe failures in large transformers and causes accidental outage which can be costly to remedy and leads to financial lost. This study examines the impacts of interlaminar insulation damage for laminations of power transformers for various flux densities and set points. The experimental work for the study involves inducing degradation of inter-lamination for various locations and for various lamination numbers of 2, 6, and 12 laminations. A flux density of 0.5T, 1.0T, 1.5T, 1,7T and 1.8T.was required for satisfactory outcomes. From the study findings, when inter-lamination insulation breaks down, this significantly affects the cores' magnetic properties. As shorted lamination numbers increase, the temperatures and the power loss increase significantly.
