Abstract
This talk outlines some of the past, present and future trends that can enable patients, carers and healthcare professionals to make good use of emerging technologies. The interactive lecture will outline how media such as video, web 2.0 and web 3.0, virtual/augmented reality, artificial intelligence and even the humble QR code have already had a significant impact in our quest to make palliative and end of life care more understandable and transparent. Increased use of remote video consultations has quickly led to new questions and challenges regarding how we best communicate using this technology. Advance & Future Care Planning can be demonstrably enhanced when outpatient or bedside video technology is used to help people understand complex topics like Do Not Attempt CPR (DNACPR) decisions. Finally, digital legacy planning has quickly become a topic of conversation for healthcare professionals, welfare rights officers and solicitors, given the rise of online assets.
