Abstract
Abstract This article examines some of the entries in Festus and Paul the Deacon which relate tosacred cakes. It emphasises the importance of the preparation of these cakes, in terms ofingredients and the various ways in which they were shaped. It also considers some of the failings of the sources when we try to understand the ways in which these foodstuffs wereemployed in Roman ritual.
