Abstract
Slum tourism has become a growing topic in the tourism literature, particularly in relation to the Global South. Simultaneously, a significant body of literature has emerged addressing informal urbanism, primarily focusing on informal settlements. This exploratory review delves into the relevant literature on slum tourism and draws upon the related bodies of knowledge on urban informality and urban tourism. It explores the capacities and limitations of slum tourism, reflects on the potentials of interdisciplinary studies exploring the intersections of informal urbanism and tourism, and concludes by discussing the emerging debates concerning slum tourism. The article contributes to the emerging body of knowledge by providing a better understanding of the dynamics of slum tourism within a global context.
