Abstract
A typical solid wall end-terrace home in the South Wales valleys was retrofitted with a whole house energy system, combining appropriate energy demand reduction, renewable energy supply and energy storage technologies. The home was occupied by two adults and two young children who were at home most of the day. The home already had an efficient gas heating system that provided heating and hot water with an electric shower. Our goals were to: • Integrate a well-designed double aspect PV roof. • Reduce energy use, energy bills and carbon emissions. • Improve thermal comfort and health for residents. • Evidence this through a comprehensive programme of computer modelling and monitoring.
