Abstract

This report presents the findings of a literature-based project with the aim of exploring the ways of knowing employed within occupational therapy. The study explored knowledge generated from the positivist and naturalistic paradigms and considered the appropriateness for occupational therapy. It sought to highlight ways of knowing that included more than just 'scientific' research evidence and explored theoretical understandings and personal and experiential knowing. The findings suggest that a practical artistry approach has a particular significance in day-to-day practice.
