Abstract
This IoT Advanced Lab Book is designed to extend the foundational concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) systems development by focusing on more complex network design and simulation. While the accompanying IoT Lab Book addresses end-to-end implementations involving microcontrollers, single-board computers, and cloud platforms, this Advanced Lab Book emphasizes detailed IoT network architectures and configurations. Central to these explorations is the use of Cisco Packet Tracer, an industry-standard network simulation tool enabling realistic modeling and management of virtual routers, switches, and IoT devices. Through its intuitive drag-and-drop interface and scriptable behaviors—facilitated by a simplified form of JavaScript—learners can build interactive network scenarios, automate device responses, and gain practical experience in configuring Cisco IOS commands. By simulating real-world conditions and troubleshooting methods, this Advanced Lab Book aims to equip both undergraduate and postgraduate students with the skills necessary to design, analyze, and secure complex IoT ecosystems, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and applied network engineering.
