Abstract
The role of optometrists in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases has expanded considerably in recent years with advances in imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA). Detecting macular neovascularisation (MNV) is essential as it serves as a key indicator in conditions like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and various other retinal diseases. Optometrists are increasingly involved in shared care pathways for medical retina services, making it important to stay updated on the evolving terminology and classification of MNV. This article provides an overview of the different types of MNV, including their relevance in AMD and non-AMD conditions, offering practical insights for diagnosis and treatment.
