Abstract

This chapter examines the integration of big data analytics and real-time visibility within service-oriented supply chains, where value creation depends on continuous coordination, timely execution, information sharing, and customer engagement rather than the physical movement of goods alone. Grounded in service-dominant logic, it argues that as supply chains shift from goods-dominant to service-dominant paradigms, information becomes the lifeblood of competitive advantage. The chapter reviews the evolution of big data analytics from a technical function into a core organizational competence, outlining the 5Vs framework and the four analytics types. It then explores how analytics and visibility jointly enable faster response, superior service quality, and evidence-based decision-making, drawing on illustrative cases from logistics, e-commerce, and mobility platforms. Finally, it proposes a conceptual framework linking analytical capability and supply chain visibility to service-oriented value creation, offering directions for research and practice.
