Abstract

This paper provides a context for and discussion of the use of ‘new’ media projects for audience development and engagement. It seeks to unravel some of the assumptions of that practice, questioning the rhetoric of ‘democracy’ and ‘empowerment’ common in the literature surrounding such work.
