Abstract

It is well known that dwarf galaxies exhibit a luminosity (or mass)-metallicity relation. However, since dwarfs also display a surface brightness-luminosity relation (whether real or due to selection effects), the relationship can be alternatively considered to be between metallicity and surface brightness. Such a relationship is shown to be easily produced if there is a gas density threshold below which massive star formation is cut off. The stellar metallicity distributions for two simple models incorporating such a cut-off are calculated.
