Abstract
This paper focuses on work intensification effected by the introduction of a new handling system in a clothing plant. Worker response is discussed in relation to issues of gender, absence and turnover and particular reference is paid to the studies of clothing workshop conflict conducted by Edwards and Scullion (1982).
