Abstract
This article reviews recent developments is East-West linkages in the automobile industry. It is suggested that new strategies are discernible both in Western and Eastern firms as they respond to wider economic and political changes, particularly liberalization within Eastern Europe, and to the global development of the industry generally. These new strategies are integrative in form, but there remain significant barriers to the full development of the Eastern European industry.
