Abstract
In September Junichir Koizumi will stand down as President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and so end his reign as Prime Minister of Japan. People are beginning to ask whether the change in leadership will see a return to old-style Japanese politics, or whether the Koizumi revolution will have a longer lasting impact. Have things really changed during the Koizumi era and what are likely to be the key issues for his successor?
