Abstract

A literary criticism of the Victorian novels "Ideala" by Sarah Grand and "A Marriage in China" by Alicia Little is presented. It comments on the idea of the "New Woman" and the authors' feminist perspectives and uses of the trope of Chinese women's bound feet. The author also reflects on the authors' experiences in China and explores themes of social purity and reform, Anglo-Chinese relations, and interracial marriage.
