Abstract

Paroxetine is a novel phenylpiperidine compound which acts as an antidepressant via specific 5-HT uptake inhibition. The elderly are of particular interest as they constitute a major population requiring antidepressant therapy, and the pharmacokinetics of many drugs are known to change with age. This paper presents the results generated in an investigation of the oral pharmacokinetics of paroxetine in healthy elderly subjects and healthy elderly subjects and healthy young adults after a single 20mg dose and after once-daily dosing with 20mg for 15 consecutive days.
