Abstract

The South China Sea represents one of the world’s most important shipping routes, with more than half the world’s merchant fleet carrying oil, bulk and containerised cargoes, passing through every year. The waters are disputed, though UNCLOS recently found in favour of the Philippines over China.  This ruling, combined with international political changes are creating uncertainties on navigation that may disturb marine traffic, which in turn could affect supply chains worldwide. This presentation will highlight the early stage work being undertaken by the authors in terms of supply chain risk management, and provide an overview of the future plans for research.
