Abstract
Although some patients require bedrest to recover from an illness or surgery, prolonged immobility has detrimental effects on the systems of the body. This article – the sixth and last in a series exploring the harmful consequences of bedrest on body and mind – describes how prolonged bedrest and immobility affect the bones, skin and self-concept.
