Abstract

The auto-ignition characteristics of ammonia/methane/air mixtures was studied experimentally and numerically for temperature up to 1750 K. A mole ratio of 10%ammonia and 90%methane fuel blend was tested in the shock tube experiment under different equivalence ratio conditions at pressure of 2 atm. Significant reduction of ignition delay time was observed for the tested fuel blends with the increase in initial temperature. Numerical simulation was conducted with a detailed kinetics mechanism at the pressure of 2 atm with temperature range of 1300-1800 K, equivalence ratio range of 0.5-2 and ammonia mole fraction in fuel blends of 10%-100%. Simulation results showed significant reduction in ignition delay time when methane added into ammonia. However the effects of methane are quite different in different methane/ammonia fuel blends, which still needs more investigations
