Abstract

This paper investigates the application of different optimization techniques to tune the parameters of Proportional Integral Derivative control (PID). The investigated system in this research is the DC motor which extensively utilized in many engineering applications. The main aim of this work is to control the speed and position of the DC motor using PID controller tuned by different algorithms. The proposed algorithms that are used to find the optimal gains of the PID controller are Bees Algorithm (BA), Particle swarm optimization (PSO), and teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO). This research is carried out using the Simulink and Command window environments provided in MATLAB software. The simulation results demonstrate that the responses of DC motor obtained from applying the PID tuned by TLBO shows satisfactory control performance in terms of overshoot, rise time, and settling time.
