Abstract

Whorl shaped zinc oxide nanostructures with an average size of around 2 μm and band gap energy of 3.43 eV are readily synthesized by a simple low temperature wet synthesis route using ZnSO4, liquid ammonia and double distilled water. The synthesized zinc oxide posses a well-defined whorl shape flower like structure. It is observed that these structures can readily be synthesized at temperature around 80–90 °C. The samples are characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR and UV–vis spectroscopy. The result indicates that the shape and band gap energy of the ZnO structure can easily be controlled by this simple synthesis route.
