Abstract
This chapter discusses the principles of evidence-based healthcare (EBHC), including a definition and brief historical development, along with a guide to relevant websites and evidence-based guidelines to ensure that the reader is aware of how to ask a question, the importance of appraisal and where to access condition-specific evidence-based information. In addition to accessing evidence, the importance of evidence implementation is discussed, referring to the JBI model of evidence-based healthcare which incorporates evidence generation, evidence synthesis, evidence transfer, evidence implementation and global health, all considered to be essential elements of evidence-based healthcare. Finally, the chapter concludes with a section on quality improvement and service delivery models.
