Abstract
Faxian was a Chinese Buddhist monk and translator of Buddhist texts who is best known for his journey to India at the beginning of the fifth century. He compiled a travelogue, the “Record of the Buddhist Kingdoms,” the first of the so-called Chinese “pilgrim records.”
