Abstract

This chapter challenges much of the theoretical and policy focus of the fourth industrial revolution which is dominated by supply side initiatives, such as improving individual employability skills. While there are important questions to be asked about what is now required of students and young workers in preparing for the jobs of the future, there are also important questions to be asked about the changing character of labour market opportunities. This chapter will explore the challenges and opportunities on both sides of the job market, raising fundamental questions about the education-work relationship, together with some of the policy implications for Asia-Pacific countries.
