Abstract

The Public Health England and Welsh Government reports indicate the living conditions as a key reason for higher morbidity and death rates among ethnic minorities. There is limited understanding of householders’ cultural differences and their impact on spatial organisation and energy behaviour in dwellings. This study aims to examine the indoor CO2 levels by data collected in Cardiff, UK by survey questionnaires and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Data Loggers to evidence the impact of sociocultural activities on indoor CO2 levels by comparing White British and British Asian homes with similar house typology in the same neighbourhood. This project lays the foundations for larger-scale research on the sociocultural values of the users while redefining the building performance in light of environmental change.
