Abstract
This research aims to investigate the impact of blockchain technology (BCT) on the performance of organisations within maritime and shipping supply chain. Drawing on the Resource-Based View (RBV), the research empirically examines how blockchain utilisation moderates the mediating relationship between IT competency and supply chain performance through supply chain integration (SCI) among organisations in the maritime supply chain. The survey data were collected from 302 respondents across the maritime industry and analysed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and a Conditional Mediation model (CoMe). The findings first confirm the SCI mediates the effect of IT competency on organisational performance within the maritime supply chain. Second, the results demonstrate that BCT adoption strengthens the relationship between IT competency and SCI, with the degree of BCT utilisation influencing the extend of this enhancement. Overall, the study provides empirical evidence on the impact of BCT in a sector where prior research has been largely conceptual, highlighting its role in advancing integration and performance in maritime supply chains.
