Abstract

March 18, 2014, Taiwan witnessed an unprecedented event in its history—a student-led occupation of the legislature to block a trade agreement between the government and China. This movement, known as the Sunflower Movement, became a pivotal moment in Taiwan's civic activism and political history. The movement's anthem, Island's Sunrise, emerged as a powerful and enduring song that continues to resonate today. As the 11th anniversary of the Sunflower Movement approaches, follow director Dr. Chen-Yu Lin on a journey to meet Sam Yang, the song’s creator, along with several Taiwanese musicians. Together, they explore the profound impact of music on society and uncover the subtle yet undeniable political influence of China on Taiwan’s music industry.
