Abstract
The second Experiences of Disability: Interdisciplinary Insights event took place on Friday, 20 June 2025 at Cardiff University. Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 event, the 2025 edition brought together approximately 40 participants from across academia, charities, third-sector organisations, and government, united by a shared commitment to understanding and improving the lived experience of disability. This year's event was themed around two interconnected areas: Intersectionality and Technology. The morning session explored how overlapping identities, including gender, race, culture, and neurodiversity shape the experience of disability in distinct and complex ways. The afternoon turned to technology: its potential as an enabler, its pitfalls as a barrier, and the innovations that disabled people would like to see developed. Each session featured presentations from speakers ranging from undergraduate students to professors and charity professionals, followed by a Lived Experience Discussion Panel. Three panels ran simultaneously, each guided by three prompt questions and each including a person with lived experience of disability. This report synthesises the key insights from both sessions and offers recommendations for researchers, institutions, and technology developers.
