Abstract

The final chapter synthesises the book's key themes, drawing together insights on identity and anorexia nervosa (AN) from across the preceding chapters. It highlights the centrality of identity confusion, ambivalence, and emotional suppression in AN, as well as the importance of social belonging, gender, and cultural factors. The chapter identifies research priorities, including the need to develop measures of identity change and to examine identity-focused interventions. It concludes by arguing that recovery requires more than weight restoration: it requires rediscovering and rebuilding the self.
