Abstract

This article examines how digital technologies are transforming architectural spatial layout design, focusing on how "boundaries" in architecture have expanded to include new possibilities created by advancements in computational design and artificial intelligence. It discusses how traditional design methods are being integrated with or replaced by these new technologies, broadening creativity and innovation while also introducing challenges and opportunities for architects. The study highlights the importance of regularly reviewing existing research to fully understand the shift from old methods to modern AI and computational techniques in architecture. It details significant changes toward more data-driven and complex processes that improve efficiency and innovation in design. The article identifies key challenges such as maintaining creative architectural practices while adopting automation, embracing new technologies, and integrating these into traditional workflows. It recommends future directions like developing easy-to-use interfaces, comprehensive training programs, and hybrid design tools that combine precise algorithms with human creativity. These steps are crucial for effectively managing the expanded scope of architecture. In conclusion, the article calls for a balanced approach to technological advancement, respecting traditional architectural values while encouraging collaboration across disciplines to improve the functionality and aesthetics of the built environment, ensuring that progress supports the broader needs of society.
