Abstract

This chapter examines the widespread impact of supply chain quality risk (SCQR) by analyzing well-known case studies, including the Kobe Steel scandal and the Boeing 737 MAX defects. In a globalized business environment, managing SCQR is critical, as quality failures at any tier of the supply chain can quickly propagate, causing financial losses, operational disruptions, and reputational damage. Furthermore, this chapter also explores the mechanisms of quality risk propagate using relevant theories, such as financial contagion theory. Finally, it proposes a set of effective strategies for supply chain quality risk management (SCQRM), emphasizing proactive mitigation measures that build resilience, reduce vulnerability to quality failures, and improve overall supply chain performance in a global context. The chapter concludes with practical implications and recommendations for future research.
