Abstract
The piece was initially dedicated to Xiamen Foreign Language School, my alma mater, and therefore based on a 5-note motif derived from its name: ‘Xi-Mi-Fa-La-Sol’. The piece’s Chinese title, Tian Feng Hai Tao (‘sky, wind, sea, and wave’), is an ancient depiction of the sublime coastal view of Fujian province, China, and is widely used to signify the view of Xiamen (also known as ‘Amoy’).
