Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this qualitative study was to explore the facilitators and barriers to collaboration between teachers, in special education, and physiotherapists in the management of children with physical disabilities. Multi-agency working and inter-professional collaboration for the provision of services for children with special educational needs is supported by the evidence base as the most effective approach to promote development and is the key to achieving successful outcomes. Physiotherapists have changed their approach to practice in special schools, from providing direct intervention to a more collaborative consultation model, which requires collaborative practices to s well established between teachers and physiotherapists. Therefore, it is important to understand teachers' experiences of collaboration in the real-life setting.
