Abstract

Purpose: High-intensity functional fitness classes, otherwise known as CrossFit, have increased in popularity in the last decade. Shoulder injury is reported as the most frequent injury among athletes who regularly participate in this type of training. Return-to-sport decision-making is a complex challenge for clinicians when managing the rehabilitation of patients suffering from shoulder pain. A criteria-based approach is commonly advocated in the literature. Strength, range of movement, and functional movement tests are recommended to inform this process. However, the reliability of these outcome measures has not been evaluated in subjects who regularly engage in CrossFit and functional fitness activities. This study aimed to establish the inter- and intra-tester reliability of functional movement tests and patient-reported outcome measures in a population of recreational CrossFit athletes.
