Abstract
Acknowledgement has been made through research and national policy for the need to offer bilingual services across health and social care, with focus now being drawn to psychological services (Acciaioli & Baily, 2024; Jerrett & Mizen, 2024). A challenge of this, however, is that the number of Welsh-speaking clinical psychologists remains low relative to population need. This must also be considered in the context of limited and increasingly diminished resources available for training clinical psychologists in Wales. Three reflective pieces were written by three authors who are or were training as Welsh-English bilingual clinical psychologists. The authors reflected on varied experiences related to professional training, clinical and academic contexts, and the role of language in meaning and belonging. Following the collective reflection, four recommendations to strengthen bilingual clinical psychology training emerged: (1) Recognise bilingualism as a professional competency, (2) Create structured opportunities to discuss language, (3) Sustain and expand outreach initiatives, and (4) Resource bilingual teaching and supervision. Embedding these actions within training and service delivery would help ensure that clinical psychology in Wales reflects the linguistic and cultural realities of the communities it serves.
