Abstract

The Shirokoff Line Intensity Mapper (SLIM) is a millimeter-wave line-intensity mapping experiment developed for the South Pole Telescope (SPT). SPT-SLIM serves as both a technical and scientific pathfinder, demonstrating the feasibility and in-field performance of multi-pixel superconducting filterbank spectrometers for future mm-LIM surveys. SPT-SLIM was commissioned at the SPT during the 2024–2025 austral summer. The focal plane comprises nine dual-polarization pixels coupled to an ortho-mode transducer, with each polarization fed to an R = 100 thin-film microstrip filterbank covering the 2 mm window (120–180 GHz). We present an overview of the instrument, including detector design and characterization, highlights from commissioning, and principal on-sky results from the Year 1 deployment. We also report on ongoing upgrades and performance of the enhanced focal plane in preparation for the upcoming Year 2 season.
