Abstract
We present a novel metamaterial telescope composed exclusively of thin, flat elements, each being a tested hot-pressed photo-lithographic structure combining the properties of a lens, tuned anti-reflection and frequency selection or filtering. We discuss the design process from ab-initio physical metamaterial properties of the single periodic cell structure to the lens concept which constitutes the building block of the telescope design and the iterative process that is part of the lens optimization. We discuss the main results of a testing campaign showing on- and off-axis performance for a given combination of thin lenses.
