Abstract
This case study invites you to explore the potential of objects for creating ethical research encounters. This approach was developed for an ESRC funded project that engaged with participants diagnosed with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD). The case study reflects an approach to developing ethical research encounters in Welsh special schools and introduces “The Case of Ethics.” Created specifically for the project, a second-hand travelling salesperson suitcase carried a range of ethical objects, each aiming to generate meaningful, ongoing conversations around consent in participatory research. These objects were selected to thematically represent ideas and concepts so familiar to researchers that they might sometimes appear self-evident. As well as engaging with The Case of Ethics, you are invited to craft your own digital or material case, to think about the objects that you would include in your own research project and why. This case study aims to generate conversations around the central importance of ethical research relationships through a consideration of creative strategies that might help you to foster them from the very earliest stages of your projects.
