Abstract
Developing efficient adsorbents for CO2 capture and biogas upgrading is essential for sustainable gas purification. Herein, zeolite-templated carbons (ZTCs) were synthesized by ethylene chemical vapor deposition using Co-exchanged β and NaY zeolites, with deposition time systematically varied. The β-zeolite template produced more accessible microporous carbons than NaY, reflecting the coupled effects of template confinement and Co-assisted carbon growth. Coβ-600-4 exhibited the most favorable textural properties, with a BET surface area of 3160.2 m2 g−1 and a micropore volume of 0.875 cm3 g−1. It adsorbed 6.6 mmol g−1 CO2 at 0.3 MPa under 15% CO2/85% N2 and 13.8 ± 0.36 mmol g−1 in a CO2/CH4 = 40/60 mixture. The enhanced performance was primarily associated with accessible 0.6–0.9 nm micropores. Kinetic analysis indicated rapid, diffusion-controlled physisorption described well by the pseudo-first-order and LDF models. These findings provide guidance for designing ZTCs for CO2/CH4 separation.
