Abstract
Released in July 2023, Pokémon Sleep is as an innovative hybrid smartphone app that is part game, part sleep monitor. Drawing from reflections of having played Pokémon Sleep since its release, this chapter first contextualizes the app by synthesizing positions including digital intimacy, gaming, and fan lifestyles to argue that Pokémon Sleep represents an advance in these areas by integrating the brand and its characters into intimate and individualized daily routines of rest and waking. The discussion then extends these concerns by advancing the concept of ‘fanagement’ within fan studies to argue that Pokémon Sleep represents a form of ‘auto-fanagement’ where the subject is encouraged to self-regulate their behaviour by internalizing the app’s domestic routines.
