Abstract

In April 2008, the Minister for Rural Affairs announced that the Wales Assembly Government intended to adopt a new comprehensive approach to eradicating bovine tuberculosis (bTB). One part of this package of measures was called the ‘bTb Health Check’ – the intention for all herds to undergo a routine or whole herd test during 2008‐9.   This report provides an assessment of the impact of the Health Check Wales (HCW) on the veterinary practices in Wales. It builds on previous research of veterinary practices views of the HCW undertaken in 2008 before the HCW began.   The report focuses on recruitment patterns within veterinary practices in Wales and the impacts and changes to their approaches to bTB testing. It also provides details of veterinary practices’ views on future bTB policy options in Wales.
