Abstract
A study on the thermodynamic properties of a multi-component constitutive model framework for cracks in cementitious composites is presented. A summary of the model framework is described and then a general expression given for the dissipation rate based on the Clausius-Duhem inequality. This is followed by a consideration of the specific conditions necessary to ensure that a model developed within the framework will always have a non-negative dissipation rate. The conditions derived and recommendations provided are summarised.
